Crank fishing is the basis of "prospecting" fishing. It allows you to cover a lot of ground in a short space of time, in search of active fish. In addition to covering ground, it offers several other advantages. Relatively small, light lures are easy to cast and animate, while stirring up a lot of water to aggress the fish and make them react. Bites are often violent. The relatively small size of the lures also makes it possible not to be selective about the species targeted. With crankbaits, you can catch anything: Chub, Perch, Pike-perch, Zander / Pike-perch, Black bass - all species are receptive. Cranking is therefore often an excellent starting point for finding fish, enabling you to identify active species and then refine your fishing. Finally, as swimming depths are quite precise and clearly identified, you will also quickly know the fish holding heights. Whether "bottom tapping" (one of the most effective techniques) or in open water at higher or lower depths, it's up to the angler to decide. Start configuration

Matching blanks

Cranking often gets a bad press. People find it unpleasant because, while the crank stirs underwater, it also hits the rod quite hard. Tendonitis is common, turning anglers away from this technique. And it's precisely because others shy away from it that you should go for it! To help you crank without fatigue or tendonitis, we've selected 3 blanks in different price ranges, designed specifically for this type of fishing. Contrary to popular belief that 'to crank a lure you need a noodle and that's no fun', there are blanks that let the lure live and dampen vibrations thanks to a highly flexible tip, while remaining 'true' blanks, with good action and reserve in the heel.

  1. Visit REVCB 70 MH from Rainshadow. This blank has a fairly classic design, with a moderate action that goes very well with cranking and has the big advantage of being very affordable for those with more limited means and/or for whom cranking is a more occasional activity. It will cast cranks up to 30 grams and dive to 4-5 metres.
  2. The Zentron CB 705 in the NFC Delta series. This series of blanks mixes carbon fiber in the heel, for the power reserve, and new-generation fiberglass in the tip, giving a very interesting flex. The behavior is a little different, but the result is the same. The lure is free to swim as it pleases and the angler keeps a playful blank, very pleasant to use, which won't hammer his elbow or shoulder. You'll be able to cast slightly larger lures, up to ten centimetres for 35 grams, and dive deeper, up to 6m.
  3. VisitCB-704-IM from NFC. A magnificent blank that will make you (re)discover cranking and forget everything you've heard or done before. An all-carbon blank, with a highly original design (a very fine, long tip) which then passes into a true heel that will give both a very pleasant live action and a surprising reserve of power. It will cast all cranks up to 6-7cm (approx. 20 grams) and dive up to 4 metres.

Our recommended handles

There are no specific constraints when it comes to crank handles. You can generally choose the right length for your forearm, and you're free to choose between split grip and full handle. Casting is highly recommended, because for these lures that pull and vibrate, the extra power of casting reels is very appreciable. When you place your order, please let us know the desired length between butt and reel trigger so that we can adjust the rings. You can also ask us to change the color of the handle kit bushings (while stocks last).

Compatible guides

Once again, we opt for a spiral Casting Assembly. This rotating Brazilian assembly prevents the braid from touching the blank and means there are fewer Guide rings on the blank, saving weight. We offer 3 Fuji Guide packs in different finishes, corresponding to different budgets and frequencies of use. The first segment of the range is occupied by Alconite ceramic guides with Inox armature, offering excellent value for money and suitable for occasional use. Guides are made of Inox with an anti-corrosion coating. The Alconite ceramic provides good glide and a high heat dissipation rate for the braid, but take care not to spool dry fly braid onto these guides. The second level of the range is occupied by SIC ceramic and Inox-framed Guides. In this Guide range, the frame is still made of coated stainless steel, but the ceramic is made of Fuji SIC, which offers better glide and greater resistance. Finally, the top of the Fuji range is represented by the Titanium-Torzite Guides. The Titanium frame is much lighter and, above all, totally insensitive to corrosion. The ceramic is made from Torzite, another Fuji proprietary material that enables the braid to glide perfectly over the ceramic. This ultra-high-performance ceramic requires less material, so smaller tunnel guides can be used. Less weight = greater sensitivity and performance.
