Techniques and tools to create your own chuck

Techniques et outils pour créer votre propre mandrin

We'll show you how to make a chuck to fit the motor sold on the rodhouse.co.uk store. Equipping your rod with a chuck will allow you to hold it in place when it spins, making your work easier.

First step: attach the chuck to the motor

Equipment required:

  • 1 m/f diameter 40 repair sleeve (available from any DIY store for a few euros)
  • 1 piece of cleat slightly larger than the cuff
  • 1 pin
  • 3 bolts with nuts

Cut a piece of cleat the depth of the cuff.

Also mark where the pin will fit, at the small hole on the motor shaft, and drill it with a very small drill.

Rog the corners with sandpaper to force the piece slightly into the narrowest part of the cuff.

Place the part on the motor shaft and position the pin to hold the assembly together.

Step two: Create a fastening system for the cane

  • Install three bolts with nuts.
  • Position criss-crossed elastics to hold the rod as it turns thanks to the grip created by the elastics.

You can now use your chuck to work on your rod!
